Projects

Two projects will be underaken in this class. The first is a textural analysis. You will learn sieving and other techniques used in working with unconsolidated sediments. This project is due October 2, 1996 by 5:00pm. The second project involves section measuring of both of those practical aspects of work with sedimentary rocks through that project. The section measuring project is due December 9, 1996 by 5:00 pm. Those two projects partially satisfy the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences Writing Requirement inthe Department of Geology.

Laboratories

The laboratory exercises inthis course are designed to provied practical experiene in describing and interpreting the characteristics of the common sedimentary rocks. These laboratories wil involve three areas: unconsolidated sediments, hand samples and thin section analysis of the more common sedimentary rock types. Each laboratory will have a structured exercise. There will be lab practical exam after coverage of each of mojor groupings: common sedimentary minerals, clastic/nonclastic silicates, carbonates and aluminia silicates and miscellaneous sedimentary rocks.
